What Is Deicing Salt

Deicing salt is a deicing agent used to melt ice and remove snow from roads, walkways, runways, and other surfaces. It also dehumidifies the air, producing water by lowering the freezing point of water (this process known deliquescence). It does not raise the temperature so deicing salt cannot cause damage from heat. However deicing salt can only be effective if applied before temperatures fall to near freezing levels, at concentrations that are safe for plants and animals
